I love auctions. There is nothing funner to me than finding really interesting items that aren’t available on a retail shelf. Just recently a friend bought a week in a Mexican Villa overlooking Santiago Bay on the Pacific Ocean and invited my wife and I along. This property isn’t rentable to anyone no matter how much money they have, but because it was in a charity auction, we were able to mooch off of his largesse and enjoy a vacation that would have made Robin Leach’s eyes bug out.
Along those same lines, Heritage Auctions was an old-school auction house that has gone completely digital. Instead of the “homina homina … sold to Trey for more money than he thought he was spending!” bang the gavel kind of auction, they feature really rare pieces like Winston' Churchill’s Sharps rifle, or a gold etched Knight’s helmet from the middle ages, or a sabertooth fossil.

Tim Ferriss’ The 4 Hour Workweek was published 15 years ago. It blew my mind then that people were hacking their way through life. I absorbed everything I could from the book, became an early adopter of all things Ferriss and it has changed my life immensely.
The core philosophy of optimizing and using your time to live the life you’ve always wanted appealed to me. After reading the book, the way I saw myself changed and then so did my circumstances. I worked on the inner me and then the outer me was ready for more. I went from owning one business to several, and then advising others on how to do the same. I went from investing sporadically to a more disciplined and focused approach to results. I went from delegating nothing and failing at excellence to living a life that others envy often.
I know. It sounds like I’m bragging but a friend challenged me 2 years ago to see who was more productive. We compared our calendars, looked at the number of kept appointments, the number of days off, the amount of time spent on family functions, the number of companies we ran, the number of deals we invested in … all manner of comparable factors. I beat him by 8x … today it would be much much higher. Why?
I find smart, dedicated, subject matter experts with whom I share my goals. I allow them to advise me on how to achieve them and then follow their advice while building in equity and wealth for all of those on the journey with me. That’s a formula for health, wealth and happiness.
